General Summary of Position

Department: Utilization - Quality Management
Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Non-exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Day shift, but varies due to travel to educational sites

Job Summary: MedStar Health is looking for a Medical Assistant Quality Coordinator to join our team at MedStar Medical Group LLC! The Medical Assistant Quality Coordinator assists in managing quality, safety, clinical and operational projects for ambulatory practice sites and supports leaders of Clinical Care, Quality, Safety, and Education. Provides a wide range of services to multiple offices/practices with diverse patient populations, including coaching for safety, data collection, training, and implementation of quality initiatives. Clinical responsibilities include direct care associate training, competency assessment, safety event reviews, and participation in new programs and education planning.

Primary Duties:
  1. Coordinate ambulatory, entity, and/or systemwide quality and safety-related programs, assessing practice sites and providing updates and training on goals, standards, and best practices. Assist and train Medical Assistants to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  2. Assist in developing and maintaining departmental goals, objectives, policies, and supporting the environment of care to meet standards. Attend meetings and training sessions related to safety, infection control, OSHA, CPR, etc. Coordinate RN and MA extern programs and mentor new externs and staff.
  3. Collaborate with physicians, practice managers, and leaders to address issues related to patient care and compliance. Mentor staff, foster development, and serve as a role model. Support staff career development and advancement.
  4. Participate in developing and delivering ambulatory educational programs, including online training and workshops. Conduct site rounds for quality and safety, prepare for external reviews, and provide training on lab testing and infection prevention.
  5. Support evidence-based practice through training, competency assessments, and literature review. Conduct surveys on quality, safety, and compliance, and assist in developing improvement plans. Reassess practice changes for efficacy and sustainability, and help develop clinical protocols and safety practices.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a recognized medical assistant program
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • 3-4 years CMA/RMA experience with 2 years in a medical or ambulatory setting; or 1-2 years supervisory experience with similar background
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
