Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant (PRN) for KU MedWest campus in Shawnee, KS. The role supports efficient patient flow by preparing patients, performing limited procedures, scheduling tests, and maintaining records and supplies.

Strong customer service and teamwork are essential. Required education includes a high school diploma and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience, plus BLS certification within 14 days.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate required.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA/NCRMA certification.
• BLS or BCLS certification within 14 days of hire (AHA).

Responsibilities

• Schedules tests, obtains films/reports, and prepares lab specimens per policy.
• Assists physicians/nurses with procedures per competency checklist.
• Collaborates with health-care team to plan patient care and records history elements for review.
• Electronically submits prescriptions/refills to outpatient pharmacies.
• Ensures data is recorded in medical records and forms related to procedures.
• Maintains examination rooms and stocks supplies, checks logs and carts.
• Performs clerical duties: greet patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certifications, insurance forms, and billing.
• Performs simple procedures as directed and records vital signs.
• Demonstrates professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the unit/department.
• Adheres to essential functions; other duties may be assigned.
