SouthStar is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient-focused healthcare delivery in Bastrop, Louisiana. The role involves preparing patients, recording vitals, assisting with procedures, collecting specimens, and maintaining clean, ready-to-use rooms under provider supervision.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma, MA certification (RMA/AAMA/NCCT/CMAC/AMCA), and BLS certification, with at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certificate/License: MA certification (RMA/AAMA/NCCT/CMAC/AMCA) and BLS required.
• Experience: 1 year of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination and record vitals.
• Set up and maintain exam rooms and supplies.
• Administer injections and wound care under provider orders.
• Collect specimens and log results in EMR.
• Document patient care and schedule tests or follow-ups.
• Instruct patients on treatment and medications.
• Open/close clinic duties and patient callbacks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
• Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
• Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
• Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
• Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
• Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
• Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
• Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Compensation: Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.
