Job summary

SouthStar in Louisiana is hiring a Medical Assistant to support a patient-centered healthcare team. You will prepare patients, record vital signs, and assist with procedures in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination and record vital signs.
  • Prepare exam/treatment rooms and maintain supplies.
  • Administer injections and wound care under provider orders.
  • Collect specimens and perform basic in-house testing and logging results.
  • Document patient care in EMR and coordinate appointments.
  • Instruct patients on treatment and medications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
  • Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
  • Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
  • Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
  • Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
  • Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
  • Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
  • Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
  • Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Compensation: Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.
