Job summary

SouthStar is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Rayne, LA clinic. You will prepare patients for examinations, record vitals, assist with procedures, and manage exam rooms while supporting wound care and injections as ordered.

The role requires a high school diploma and BLS certification, with CMA/RMA/NCCT/AMCA certification preferred and at least 1 year of related experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination, record vitals and history, and provide treatment as applicable.
• Prepare exam/treatment rooms, maintain supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Administer injections, change dressings, and wound care under providers orders.
• Collect blood and other specimens, perform in-house testing, log results and communicate lab results.
• Document patient care in charts and EMR; schedule tests and follow-up appointments.
• Instruct patients and families on treatment and medication instructions; support cross-functional team actions.

Education

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
• Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
• Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
• Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
• Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
• Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
• Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
• Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Compensation:

Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.
