Job summary

St. Luke's University Health Network seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to support the practice operations, assist in delivering healthcare services, and engage in patient preparation and care coordination.

The role involves pre-visit planning, patient data collection, injections, immunizations, and collaboration with the care team. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, MA certification, and preferably 2 years in a similar healthcare setting with BLS/CPR.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• Graduates of accredited Medical Assistant programs strongly preferred.
• Current certification as a Medical Assistant from an accepted accredited organization required.
• Two years of experience in similar healthcare setting preferred.
• BLS/CPR: Current or within 60 days of hire (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).

Responsibilities

• Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records and determines needed services with the provider.
• Completes pre-charting of value based pieces up to five days prior to appointment; sends messages to the Care Team when warranted.
• Prepares patients for examination and escorts them to the exam room; records height, weight, vital signs, medication list, allergies, personal, family and social history; inquires about smoking status and reason for visit.
• Maintains exam rooms, supplies, cleans and autoclaves contaminated instruments; administers injections or immunizations within state guidelines.
• Coordinates with providers or Care Team regarding discharge, ED visits, labs, imaging, and specialist visits; educates patient and family.
• Attends departmental meetings and contributes to problem resolution and process improvements; analyzes current procedures.
• Responsible for disposing biohazardous waste and regular waste per protocol.
• Maintains vaccine temperature logs, inventory, orders medical supplies, and stocks rooms to par levels.
• Performs other administrative tasks (check-in/check-out, opening/closing procedures) as needed.
• Brings suggestions for improvement to Practice Managers and Providers for consideration.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
