Job description

McLaren Health Care is a fully integrated health network committed to quality, evidence-based patient care with locations in Michigan and Indiana. The McLaren system includes 13 hospitals in Michigan, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, a primary and specialty care physician network, commercial and Medicaid HMOs, home health, infusion and hospice providers, pharmacy services, a clinical laboratory network and a wholly owned medical malpractice insurance company. McLaren operates Michigan’s largest network of cancer centers and providers, anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, one of only 53 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.

Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, will provide excellent patient care by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to assist in the examination and treatment of patients, including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatment, administering injections and venipuncture. Assists with clerical duties to maintain efficient operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Responds promptly, professionally and courteously to all customers’ needs.
  2. Cooperates and communicates effectively with all patients, families and staff.
  3. Contributes to continuous quality improvement efforts.
  4. Prepares examining rooms including turning on computer terminals and stocks room with supplies.

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent and six months experience as a medical assistant

OR

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of one of the following programs: medical assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse or armed services medic program.

For clinics with the Rural Health Designation, Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), and Canadian equivalents, (MHC approved providers for the resuscitation certification) is required within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification. May be required at management discretion.
  • Electronic medical record experience.
  • One-year experience working in medical office with multiple providers.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office of the same specialty.
