UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Oakland Pediatric Primary Care office. The Oakland Primary Care Center is part of the General Academic Pediatrics division within University of Pittsburgh Physicians. Our clinic operates a primary care, newborn, and walk-in clinic to meet various patient needs. Our team includes over 40 providers, nurses, MAs, dental services, behavior therapy, WIC, and more, providing holistic pediatric care and continuing to grow.

Hours are Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours, with 8- or 10-hour shifts. No evenings, weekends, or holidays are required. The position involves back and front office duties. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their experience and education.

Responsibilities:
  1. Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, complete forms, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage charts.
  3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, clean rooms and equipment, and manage inventory.
  4. Organize patient flow, assist patients with transfers, collect specimens, take vitals, and relay instructions.
  5. Answer calls, provide patient education, and perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs.
  6. Assist physicians with procedures, document patient information, and comply with regulatory requirements.
  7. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision.
