Job description

Position Summary

This position functions as a member of both the clinical and administrative team and completes all assigned daily tasks to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations in the physician practice. The Medical Assistant I /Patient Service Specialist (PSS) I maintains a professional, positive manner when communicating with patients and all customers in‑person, over the phone, or via email.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Work closely with providers to assist in delivering world‑class care to patients.
  • Room patients and prepare them for the provider visit.
  • Takes vital signs as necessary (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rates) and enters data accurately into EMR.
  • Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc., into EMR during the physical exam.
  • Obtain required consents, complete required forms as needed for specific visit types.
  • Perform office testing as needed; complete controls on certain in‑office tests.
  • Perform EKGs as ordered.
  • Chaperone providers as required.
  • Administer vaccines and medications as ordered by provider following BMC policies.
  • Stock rooms and monitor expiration of supplies in exam rooms.
  • Assist with incoming calls by answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately.
  • Register patients in EMR, verify demographics, and obtain accurate health insurance information.
  • Conduct eligibility checks to ensure insurance is reflected accurately.
  • Schedule patients’ appointments and appropriate testing as directed.
  • Follow scheduling rules and direct schedule patient visits in other practices.
  • Perform pre‑visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments.
  • Perform outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality, and schedule specialty appointments and testing as required.
  • Inform the manager of all clinical or administrative supply needs or assist with ordering.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  • Adhere to all BMC policies, including vaccination requirements for COVID‑19 and flu.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; education from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent preferred.
  • One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.
  • Strong customer‑service excellence expected.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Adheres to all BMC policies and ensures patient confidentiality.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $15.14 – $21.15 per hour.
