Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to provide safe and efficient patient care across our practice sites. The role involves direct patient contact, specimen collection, vaccines under supervision, and support for providers.

Duties include documentation, patient education, and handling routine office procedures. The ideal candidate will have relevant education in medical assisting (high school diploma or GED, with an associates or diploma program preferred) and be capable of

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or GED; associate's degree or diploma program preferred.
• Experience not specified; general medical assisting competencies expected.
• Licenses may be required by state.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents reason for visit and patient vital signs (temperature, BP, weight, BMI).
• Collects specimens per provider directions and ensures proper tracking and transport.
• Ensures patient care areas stocked with unexpired supplies and equipment in good condition.
• Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and observes standard precautions.
• Schedules and tracks follow-up diagnostics and communicates results to patients.
• Under supervision, administers vaccines and medications as trained; screens for risks.
• Processes prescription requests and refills per protocol.
• Performs basic office procedures and tests as competency allows (EKG, vision tests, etc.).
• Provides patient education and care instructions to patient and family.
• Obtains comprehensive health information by phone to triage urgency and plan visits.
• Completes pre-visit planning and medication reviews; updates EHR.
• Manages daily patient flow and prioritizes tasks within the care team.
• Supports process improvements within office functions and workflows.
• Maintains confidentiality and completes annual compliance trainings.
• Assists during visits by entering data in the patient record and following orders.
• Maintains good standing with yearly audits (≥80%).
