Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient exams in a clinic setting in Winston-Salem, NC. The role involves preparing patients, collecting vital signs, and assisting with routine lab work and procedures under supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting physicians/APPs with procedures, administering routine medications per standing orders, and ensuring smooth clinic flow through effective communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers required by the AHA.
• 1 year experience preferred.
• Proficient computer skills and experience with electronic medical records systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop rapport with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and collecting health information.
• Performs laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and standard infection control guidelines.
• Assists physicians/APP with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy testing, EMG, and colposcopy when needed.
• Administers routine medications under physician/APP orders or standing protocols.
• Follows up on procedures, tests, and referrals; communicates with nurses and staff to ensure smooth clinic flow.
• Communicates effectively with physicians/APPs and the health care team to keep patients informed.
• Performs basic/advanced clinical support tasks (e.g., suture removal, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry) under supervision.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate care and understands growth and development principles across patient lifespans.
