Job summary

Brown University Health's LPG-Newport clinic seeks a medical assistant to support physicians in delivering high-quality patient care, while providing excellent service to patients and the practice.

Responsibilities include preparing charts, taking histories and vitals, performing EKGs, rapid strep, vaccines, patient education, and handling referrals. A high school diploma, English proficiency and BLS are required; MA certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a formal medical assistant training program or a minimum of 3 years of medical assistant experience.
• Completion of a medical assistant certification preferred.
• Able to read, write and speak English; Basic Life Support certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks such as lab tracking, data entry, and vital signs.
• Perform routine procedures such as EKGs, rapid strep, urine dips, spirometry, nebulizer treatments.
• Administer injections including vaccines and medications.
• Educate and advise patients within established parameters.
• Schedule, coordinate, and track STAT patient referrals and pre-authorizations.
• Maintain stock levels for medicines and supplies.
• Monitor and audit vaccine refrigeration temperature per DOH regulations.
• Comply with HIPAA and confidentiality laws.
