Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant in Chicago to support physicians and nurses, manage patient flow, and perform delegated clinical tasks. The role focuses on maintaining clean, safe environments, safeguarding patient confidentiality, and promoting patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, assisting with procedures, managing supplies, and coordinating care with the patient care team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current certification in CMA/AMT/NCCT/NHA/NRCMA or eligible to write one of the five eligible exams.
• Within first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or NRCMA.
• Signed acknowledgement during onboarding that certification must be attained within six months.
• American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
• Zero to two years’ experience in a relevant role.
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assures efficient patient flow through the site: escorts patient to exam room, identifies patient with 2 identifiers and prepares patient for examination. Obtains accurate vital signs, per organization standards. Documents reason for visit and updates allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information.
• Prompts provider and nurse of significant changes; sets up equipment or supplies needed for visit; cleans and prepares exam room for next patient; maintains flow of patients.
• Assists practitioner with medical and surgical procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, and specimen collection.
• Provides high quality care by stocking exam rooms, disinfecting equipment, monitoring inventory, and maintaining clinic environments; follows opening/closing procedures.
• Functions as an integral part of the patient care team and communicates with patients and the care team in person and on the phone.
• Performs delegated procedures in the specialty area safely and efficiently as directed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
