Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant in Boston, MA. The role supports efficient practice operations, greets patients, performs vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy and routine procedures, and assists with scheduling and documentation in the EMR.

The position requires basic computer skills, a high school diploma or GED, and relevant patient care experience or relevant certificates.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting.
• Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate web-based applications.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy certificate.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical assisting duties including vital signs, height/weight, EKGs, phlebotomy and assisting during routine procedures.
• Ensures patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use.
• Escorts patients to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab as needed.
• Performs point of care testing and specimen collection; ensures testing equipment functions properly.
• Monitors, maintains and inventories medical equipment and supplies; ensures expiration dates are observed.
• Reviews medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners.
• Enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in the EMR as directed by a clinician.
• Documents tasks accurately in the EMR during visits for proper billing.
• Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents for clinical activities.
• Acts as liaison between patient and practice staff to ensure smooth flow and service delivery.
• May answer and screen telephone calls.
