Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Clean wound(s) before treatment is administered.
2. Perform standard medical laboratory tests, including urinalysis.
3. Schedule and refer patients to appointments.
4. Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment, clinic policies, and procedures.
5. Coordinate patient care with outside health agencies.
6. Obtain health status and medical history.
7. Maintain patient files and records.
8. Complete insurance forms and initiate other patient correspondence.
9. Arrange for the repair of clinic equipment.
10. Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies.
11. Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system, if required in certain areas.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience for an Assistant level, and 1-3 years for an Associate level.
3. Knowledge of basic Medical Terminology.
4. Ability to stand/walk for moderate periods, and lift, position, push, and transfer patients.
5. Ability to walk long distances throughout the hospital daily and frequently.
6. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
7. Effective communication skills, accountability, and appreciation for diversity across multiple roles.
8. Active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
9. Some office experience is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
2. Experience working within a large complex healthcare setting.
3. Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.

Additional Details

Part-time hours, 20 hours per week, with weekday schedules varying depending on location/clinic. Must be able to work 20 hours between Monday and Friday. Occasional weekends may be required.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which governs wages, benefits, hours, and other employment terms.
