About the Role

New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center, a division of Northeast Orthopaedic Alliance, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant / Ortho Technologist to join our clinical team in Bedford, NH.

This position provides hands-on clinical support to our orthopedic providers and patients throughout the course of care. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient orthopedic setting.

Candidates with experience in medical assisting, orthopedic technology, casting, splinting, bracing, and/or DME are encouraged to apply.

Position Objective

Provide professional orthopedic clinical support in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. This role will assist providers with patient care, clinical procedures, casting and bracing, room preparation, patient flow, and other clinical responsibilities necessary to support an efficient and high-quality patient experience.

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and assist with patient intake and clinical assessments.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other pertinent patient information.
  • Assist providers with examinations and orthopedic procedures.
  • Apply, adjust, fabricate, and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices as directed.
  • Measure and fit patients for braces, supports, and other durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Perform orthopedic measurements and testing, such as grip strength and leg-length measurements.
  • Remove sutures and staples; change dressings and provide wound care using appropriate aseptic techniques.
  • Prepare exam rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies for examinations and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory and assist with ordering and management of orthopedic equipment, DME, and clinical supplies.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas.
  • Respond to and document patient calls and messages within the scope of the position and as directed by clinical staff.
  • Assist with test scheduling, specimen collection and labeling, and other clinical coordination as needed.
  • Prepare medications and supplies for provider administration in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor medication and supply expiration dates and maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Support efficient patient flow and work collaboratively with providers and other clinical team members.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and in-service education.
  • Maintain knowledge of and consistently follow applicable clinical, safety, infection-control, and organizational standards.
  • Provide support and share knowledge related to casting, splinting, bracing, and DME practices as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and provide coverage at other NHOC locations as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a medical assistant, orthopedic technician, athletic training, or similar clinical role preferred.
  • Orthopedic clinical experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with casting, splinting, bracing, wound care, and/or DME preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with providers and clinical staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements and maintain a full range of body motion.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transferring patients as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond appropriately to changing patient and clinic needs.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and other clinical hazards.
Travel

This position is based in Bedford, NH, with occasional travel between NHOC locations in Bedford, Nashua, and Londonderry for training, coverage, and scheduling needs.

Compensation

$22.00–$28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and orthopedic clinical expertise.
