Job summary

Dr. Black’s Eye Associates in Jeffersonville, IN is seeking a Medical Assistant (Optometry) to support patient care during eye examinations. This on-site role emphasizes accurate history taking, test support, and ensuring a smooth patient flow.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and 1+ year in a medical or ophthalmic setting; strong communication and teamwork are essential. On-the-job training is provided, with a comprehensive benefits package and a friendly, patient-centered

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One or more years of experience working in a medical setting preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in the optometric or ophthalmic field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acquaints all new patients with office procedures to which they will be exposed.
  • Informs patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed, and how the patient will be affected during the tests.
  • Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
  • Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks.
  • Maintains practice standards of sterile technique and infection control.
  • Determines which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to have testing initiated.
  • Escorts all patients from the waiting room for data collection.
  • Advises patients as to who will see them following testing and makes patients comfortable during wait.
  • Maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Toubleshoots instruments as necessary.
  • Replaces bulbs.
  • Checks connections.
  • Reports instrument issues to Lead Ophthalmic Technician in a timely manner.
  • Seeks guidance from more senior staff as necessary, never performing beyond capabilities.
  • Maintains cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms.
  • Maintains back up levels of stock in exam and procedure rooms.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Summary

This individual is responsible for providing the best in patient care and assisting with eye examinations.

Location: 1407 Spring Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One or more years of experience working in a medical setting preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in the optometric or ophthalmic field preferred.

This position operates in a professional office environment.
