Job summary

Northwest Physicians Group in Amarillo, TX seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians, interview patients, take vital signs, and prepare exam rooms. The role also covers front desk coverage and charting in the Electronic Medical Record.

Ideal candidates have a Medical Assistant certificate, High School diploma, and BLS; Spanish preferred. The position offers comprehensive benefits and professional growth within the UHS network.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical Assistant certificate required or certification within six months.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire or within 30 days; maintain thereafter.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is required.
  • Experience with patient check-in and check-out per clinic protocol.
  • General medical office procedures are expected.
  • Understand end of day cash balancing and charge reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Spanish language ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of patient care duties under physician supervision.
  • Interview patients and measure vital signs including pulse, temp, BP, height, weight.
  • Venipuncture and related procedures as directed by the physician.
  • Document in the EMR according to IPM guidelines.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examinations and assist front desk as needed.

The group has grown to a network of over 40 providers serving patients at numerous primary, specialty and urgent care locations in Amarillo, Texas. Northwest Physicians Group is affiliated with Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a 495-bed system acute care hospital that serves approximately 650,000 residents of the Texas Panhandle and surrounding region. The system provides acute care services including: cardiac, pediatric, women's, emergency, surgical and behavioral healthcare.

Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. Position: Medical Assistant

Position Summary: This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviewing patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedure as directed by the physician within the scope of practice in the State. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists in covering the front desk as required.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirments (if applicable)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical Assistant certificate required or must obtain certification within six (6) months of employment
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment. This must be obtained prior to providing patient care.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required
  • Experience with patient check-in and check-out process (according to clinic protocol)
  • General medical office procedures
  • Understand end of day cash balancing and charge reconciliation process (according to clinic protocol)
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Must be able to perform courteously and professionally in all interactions
