MEDICAL ASSISTANT/MED SECRETARY
Job Description:
HYBRID: MEDICAL ASSISTANT/MEDICAL SECRETARY
Location: Lexington
Position Summary:
Clinicians are assisted with all aspects of patient care in accordance with MAPS protocol.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Ensures equipment in exam rooms, sterilizes instruments, and maintains diagnostic equipment in appropriate working order. Follows established OSHA guidelines for cleaning and disposing of hazardous materials. Triages phone calls relating to patient care. Administers injections. Performs various clinical procedures. Performs phlebotomy. Ensures that all lab requisitions are completed accurately with appropriate diagnosis and demographics. Prepares and replenishes supplies. Maintains specific inventories. Orders supplies when needed. Maintains patient care logs to ensure that all tests (Pap smears, blood work, radiology, special procedures, etc) scheduled have been completed. Researches those results not returned and reschedules patients as indicated. Greets patients, determines their medical needs, and responds accordingly. Prepares patient medical records and ensures information is accurate and complete. Records patient’s chief complaints and vital signs. Prepares patient for an encounter with a provider. Dispenses or administers medications and injections as directed by the provider. Accurately records all medication stock used. Assists in the collection of specimens. Instructs patient regarding preparation for various tests. Schedules patients for special procedures. Notifies patients when referrals are necessary. Informs patients when special preparations are needed and obtains pre-certification. Triages phone calls for the physician. Processes prescriptions under the direction of the physician. Informs patients of test results, physician messages, etc. Attends all staff meetings. Provides secretarial support as staffing needs indicate. Maintains patient care logs to ensure that all laboratory tests (Pap smears, blood work, radiology, special procedures, etc.) scheduled have been completed. Researches those results not returned and reschedules patients as indicated. Reviews daily cancellations and no-shows with physicians. Reschedules patients as clinically indicated. May be required to float to other practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED. A minimum of one year's experience as a medical assistant in a medical practice environment is desirable. Certification as a medical assistant is desirable. Ability to multi-task. Customer service experience. Knowledge of medical terminology. Computer skills required. Must be certified in CPR. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and follow directions. Phlebotomy skills are helpful.
Physical Requirements & Environment:
The job requires physical stamina; many hours/day on the feet. All staff is expected to cross-train and help each other when needed. The job requires some weekends and evenings.
