Job summary

Ohio State University Physicians invites applications for a Medical Assistant role. The position supports direct patient care, rooming and vital signs, and assists physicians and nursing staff with examinations and treatments in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least one of the listed paths.
  • Diploma from a Medical Assistant Program, or related medical assisting experience
  • Military Medic training, EMT-P, or a combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, record vital signs (height, weight, temp, BP, pulse, respiration).
  • Complete patient interview and history.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments and explain procedures.
  • Assist in examinations and carry out treatments and tests as ordered.
  • Set up equipment and prepare treatment rooms for patients.
  • Collect samples (blood, urine, sputum) and perform routine lab tests.

Education

Diploma from Medical Assistant Program
Minimum of 1 year of medical assisting experience
Military Medic training
EMT-P (Paramedic) training
Equivalent of 1 year combined relevant medical assisting experience and education

Responsibilities

Purpose:

The Medical Assistantrolesassistwith direct patient care, andperformsspecialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated byestablishedclinical protocol.Assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.

  • Room patients, measure and record vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
  • Complete patient interview and history.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments and explain procedures. Assists with procedures as ordered by physician.
  • May assist in examinations, carry out treatments and special tests.
  • Set up equipment and prepare medical treatment rooms for patients.
  • Collect samples such as blood, urine and sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent along with at least one of the following:

  • A diploma from a Medical Assistant Program OR
  • Minimum of 1 year of medical assisting experience OR
  • Military Medic training OR
  • EMT-P (Paramedic) training OR
  • Equivalent of 1 year combined relevant medical assisting experience and education

Preferences:

  • Medical Assistant Certification
