Job summary

Ohio State University Physicians (OSUP) is seeking a Medical Assistant to support direct patient care in a busy outpatient setting. The role involves rooming patients, taking vital signs, interviewing patients, and assisting with examinations and procedures under clinician guidance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent along with at least one of the following: a diploma from a Medical Assistant Program; Minimum of 1 year of medical assisting experience; Military Medic training; EMT-P (Paramedic) training; Equivalent of 1 year combined relevant medical assisting experience and education.
• Preference: Medical Assistant Certification.

Responsibilities

• Purpose: The Medical Assistantrolesassistwith direct patient care, andperformsspecialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated byestablishedclinical protocol.Assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
• Room patients, measure and record vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
• Complete patient interview and history.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments and explain procedures. Assists with procedures as ordered by physician.
• May assist in examinations, carry out treatments and special tests.
• Set up equipment and prepare medical treatment rooms for patients.
• Collect samples such as blood, urine and sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Medical Assistant Program Diploma

Minimum of 1 year medical assisting experience

Military Medic training

EMT-P (Paramedic) training

Equivalent of 1 year combined relevant medical assisting experience and education
