Job summary

Mercy, located in St. Louis, MO, is seeking Medical Assistants to support multiple outpatient clinics in a float pool. The role offers full-time daytime hours with no nights or weekends, and a collaborative team environment. You will assist providers, perform basic tests, and manage patient flow in a busy outpatient setting.

Responsibilities include front office duties, prep for exams, and participation in quality initiatives, all while adhering to infection control policies and Mercy standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• One year of applicable patient care or medical office experience preferred.
• New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training.

• Document care accurately and timely; maintain clean exam rooms.

• Handle front office tasks (check-in/out, phones, faxes).
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
• Follow infection prevention and safety procedures.

The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Location: 12700 Southfork Road, Suite 275, St. Louis, MO 63128

Schedule:

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 40 hours/week | Day Shift

No nights, weekends or holidays

Key Responsibilities

• MA greets and rooms patients, obtains vital signs.
• Applicable only in Primary Care: Complete Advanced Standard Rooming
• Collect and update medical history to include medication history.
• Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Performs basic diagnostic tests (e.g., urine dipstick, glucose, EKGs), as deemed competent.
• Documents care accurately and timely.
• Reinforces patient education once provided by the provider or nurse.
• Maintains exam room cleanliness and ensures adequate supplies are available.
• Assists with scheduling diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, and follow-up appointments.
• Performs front office tasks such as answering phones, patient check-in/check-out, and managing faxes and scanned documents.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
• Follows all infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory procedures/policies.
• Other duties as assigned within the scope of the Medical Assistant role, based on office type (HOD or clinic), and in accordance with applicable policies and state regulations (i.e., vaccinations).

Float Pool Coverage Areas

This position supports multiple specialty clinics throughout the South St. Louis County area. Float assignments may include:

• Urology
• Pulmonology
• Sleep Medicine
• Oncology & Hematology (Sindelar Cancer Center)
• Breast Surgery
• Neurology
• OB/GYN
• Plastic Surgery
• Neurosurgery
• Additional Mercy specialty clinic locations as needed, including the Kirkwood area

Successful candidates will enjoy working in a variety of clinical environments and collaborating with multiple specialty teams.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Education Preferred: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Experience Preferred: One year of applicable patient care experience or applicable medical office experience as defined by the clinic
• New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training
