Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Medical Assistant for its Southfork clinic in St. Louis. This full-time outpatient role involves greeting patients, taking vitals, preparing exams, and supporting providers with procedures in a busy clinic.

You will perform basic tests, document care, and assist with scheduling and front-office tasks while maintaining a clean, compliant workspace and strong patient relations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.
• One year of applicable patient care experience or applicable medical office experience is preferred.
• New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training.

Responsibilities

• Greet and room patients, obtain vital signs.
• Complete Advanced Standard Rooming in Primary Care.
• Collect and update medical history including medications.
• Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests (urine dipstick, glucose, EKGs) as competent.
• Document care accurately and timely.
• Reinforce patient education after provider input.
• Maintain exam room cleanliness and supplies.
• Assist with scheduling tests, referrals, and follow-ups.
• Handle front office tasks (check-in/out, calls, faxes).
• Participate in quality improvement and team meetings.
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory policies.

Medical Assistants (MA) in the medical office setting supports providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Medical Assistant - Mercy Clinic Southfork

Location: 12700 Southfork Road, Suite 275, St. Louis, MO 63128

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 40 hours/week

No weekends or holidays

Key Responsibilities

• MA greets and rooms patients, obtains vital signs.
• Applicable only in Primary Care: Complete Advanced Standard Rooming
• Collect and update medical history to include medication history.
• Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Performs basic diagnostic tests (e.g., urine dipstick, glucose, EKGs), as deemed competent.
• Documents care accurately and timely.
• Reinforces patient education once provided by the provider or nurse.
• Maintains exam room cleanliness and ensures adequate supplies are available.
• Assists with scheduling diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, and follow-up appointments.
• Performs front office tasks such as answering phones, patient check-in/check-out, and managing faxes and scanned documents.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
• Follows all infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory procedures/policies.
• Other duties as assigned within the scope of the Medical Assistant role, based on office type (HOD or clinic), and in accordance with applicable policies and state regulations (i.e., vaccinations).

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Education Preferred: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Experience Preferred: One year of applicable patient care experience or applicable medical office experience as defined by the clinic
• New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training
