Medical Assistants are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus
The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional working within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality. The role involves providing indirect and/or direct patient care under the provider's supervision.
Under the provider's direction, the Medical Assistant contributes to completing the patient's chief complaint (including respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature) and documents patient/family needs. The Medical Assistant identifies significant changes in patient condition through data collection and reports them to the provider. They understand and adhere to legal responsibilities within the role.
They participate in planning and implementing patient care within their scope, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems as needed. Demonstrating standards of excellence in all interactions, they serve both internal and external customers.
Within scope and state guidelines, they administer ordered medications and vaccines via oral, injection, or topical routes, and may perform casting duties according to regulations and certification.
Accurate documentation in EMR is essential, including managing MyChart requests, incoming patient calls, and in-basket messages following provider instructions. Additional duties include ordering supplies, tracking referrals, labs, and diagnostic tests, and disposing of contaminated supplies.
Required certifications within 12 months of employment include Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association), or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If certification is not obtained, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within the same timeframe.
BLS Basic Life Support certification is preferred upon hire and required before providing independent patient care.
High school diploma is required; vocational/technical training in medical assisting is preferred. Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program must be completed within 30 days of employment.
One year of healthcare experience or 24 months of clerical physician practice experience is preferred.
