• Provide translation services and facilitate parent communication with nurses.
• Maintain CPR, First Aid, scoliosis screening, and Medical Assisting certifications.

Function as a member of the school nursing team by providing medical and clerical support; ensure smooth day-to-day operations by assisting with daily tasks.

Essential Functions:

• Triage students entering the school nursing office; prioritize order of students being seen based on medical necessity
• Manage check in/check out of students from nursing by utilizing pass system
• Work with Medical Assistants from the school-based health clinic to coordinate immunizations, physicals, etc
• Collaborate with nurses and athletic trainer to manage no gym list/elevator key list, etc. Answer and route telephone calls; take messages; follow through with each message (ensuring the appropriate staff member receives the message)
• Assist with organization of School Nursing office, including maintaining inventory of medical supplies and requesting purchase orders
• Update student health information in EMR system ("SNAP")
• Provide translation services and facilitate parent communication with nurses
• Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
• Maintain scoliosis screening certification
• Maintain Medical Assisting certification
• AED and eye wash station checks
• Disinfecting of cots and nursing office space
• Attend department activities and meetings
• Enroll in professional development and additional courses/trainings to ensure health program remains current with best practices
• Ensure completion of state-mandated surveys (ie., meningococcal, influenza, vision and hearing, etc)

Education and Experience:

• Education from an approved medical assisting program or experience as a medical secretary preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Experience with electronic medical records, Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS), and Google Suites
• Bilingual Preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; for example, school supplies and books.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
• The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
