Job description

UPMC Community Medicine Incorporated - Medical Assistant Position

UPMC Community Medicine Incorporated is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to join their team at the Lemieux Sports Complex. Enjoy benefits such as free parking and an on-site cafe!

Shift/Hours: This position works Monday through Friday from 7:30am-4:30pm, with occasional mid-shift hours from 10am-6:30pm. No weekends or holidays are required.

Some travel to Passavant-McCandless locations may be necessary to support team/staffing needs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  2. Assist patients to the exam/procedure room.
  3. Help patients with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for exams.
  4. Collect patient information and history; take vital signs and perform screenings as per provider guidelines.
  5. Relay instructions to patients and families.
  6. Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  7. Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to departmental protocols.
  8. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits to maintain infection control standards.
  9. Maintain scheduled maintenance and keep appropriate records.
  10. Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms as needed.
  11. Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, CLIA, and the PA Department of Health.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of medical records and other sensitive data.
  13. Follow all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  14. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests.
  15. Assist physicians with procedures.
  16. Document patient information accurately in medical records.
  17. Answer calls, provide patient education, and relay pertinent information.
  18. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  19. Complete necessary forms and requisitions.
  20. Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  21. Prepare and organize charts for proper documentation.
  22. Handle other front office responsibilities as required.
  23. Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
