Job description

Job Title: Medical Assistant

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their Orthopaedics Department in the Northern areas of Pittsburgh. The primary location will be UPMC Passavant McCandless, with travel required to UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and Pine location in Wexford.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours on a rotating basis. Shifts include 6:30am to 3pm, 7am to 3:30pm, 7:30am to 4pm, and 8am to 4:30pm. No evenings, weekends, or holidays. Responsibilities include back office and front office duties. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their experience and education.

Responsibilities:
  1. Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, complete forms, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage patient charts.
  3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, clean rooms and equipment, and manage supplies.
  4. Organize patient flow, assist patients with transfers and procedures, take vitals, and relay instructions.
  5. Answer calls, provide information, and patient education.
  6. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, labs, assist with procedures, and document patient information.
  7. Comply with regulatory requirements and maintain confidentiality.
  8. Assist physicians with injections, vaccines, and other procedures as directed.
