Summary of Job Duties:

The Medical Assistant (MA) assists clinic physicians by conducting patient interviews, measuring vital signs, recording information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), drawing blood samples, preparing specimens for lab analysis, and assisting with administrative tasks like scheduling and registration.

All UAMS employees are expected to treat others with dignity and respect, communicate effectively, and participate in institutional initiatives. They follow the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care, which include Dignity & Respect, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration, to improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
Responsibilities:
  • Record patient history and vital signs
  • Advise patients on treatment plans and medications
  • Collect lab samples and document submissions
  • Manage appointment schedules
  • Greet and check out patients professionally
  • Register patients, handle payments, verify insurance
  • Perform additional duties to support clinical operations
  • Maintain confidentiality and communicate clearly
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues and patients
  • Follow patient-centered care principles and codes of conduct
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
