Job summary

Heartland Oncology & Hematology in Council Bluffs seeks a Medical Assistant to assist physicians with procedures, perform phlebotomy and lab testing, and ensure quality control. The role includes specimen handling, documentation in Onco/EMR, and supporting multiple clinic sites as needed.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of MA experience with venipuncture, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site oncology setting.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• BLS certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.
• One-year experience as a medical assistant in clinic or physician’s office with venipuncture.
• Must be able to work remotely effectively as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality control procedures before patient testing.
• Carry out laboratory blood work and specimen handling.
• Draw blood and prepare slides for evaluation; timely, accurate processing.
• Coordinate outside testing and referrals as ordered by physicians.
• Document results in EMR and maintain test logs and QA records.
• Assist physicians with procedures (bone marrow, fine needle aspiration, pelvic exams).
• Maintain inventory and place orders for supplies.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance; protect patient confidentiality.
