MEDICAL ASSISTANT III - NEWPORT BEACH NEUROSURGERY

Salary Range: $24.10 - $37.05/hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for maintaining a professional environment, ensuring a collaborative relationship with patients and physicians. The MA will assist with non-clinical tasks to ensure smooth patient access and flow, including scheduling follow-up visits, imaging, lab work, and preparing chart elements. Responsibilities also include pre-authorization processes and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The Medical Assistant will work with staff to ensure all records are received and testing is completed prior to appointments or surgeries. The MA will provide updates to staff and patients regarding timing and status of tasks impacting health, testing, and treatment options. Ensures patient flow and communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Medical Assistant program or one year of medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Preferred:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Minimum one (1) year of medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC or other EMR systems.
  • Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Certifications Required

  • Current BLS Certification.

Certifications Preferred

  • Medical Assistant Certification.
  • CPR certification required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
