Summary
The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination, take and record vital signs, perform phlebotomy as needed, administer medications as directed by Providers according to policy and procedure.
- Collect data contributing to the assessment and evaluation of patient care, including discharge plans, under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse.
- Collect, process, and submit laboratory specimens per policy and procedure.
- Communicate patient findings and pertinent information to Providers and/or Licensed Nurses using appropriate documentation processes.
- Accurately document care within the EPIC system.
- Perform point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection, and patient tracking.
- Perform department-specific clinical duties such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and other procedures.
- Handle routine office duties like faxing, copying, and filing as needed.
- Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in phlebotomy preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Experience in healthcare environment preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) required.
- Experience with electronic medical records (e.g., EPIC) preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic Program required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- No prior experience required.
