Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care teams. The MA will work under physician supervision, assist with patient flow, and perform clinical tasks including administering medications and immunizations, taking vital signs, and managing supplies.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited MA program is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required; graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• No experience required; 1–2 years in ambulatory care preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred; CPR certification required on hire and recertified every two years.
• Certification exam completion for MA (CMA/RMA/NRCMA/NCMA/RCMAS/CCMA) within 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ambulatory care as part of the interdisciplinary team under physician supervision.
• Administer medications and immunizations, obtain vital signs, and maintain inventory.
• Facilitate safe patient flow and coordinate high-risk referrals and lab tests.
• Support transitions of care and ensure compliance with clinic and hospital policies.

Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) in the ambulatory practice functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The MA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when determining competencies and performing clinical tasks during patient care. The MA may report to a provider, administrative/practice lead, nurse manager and/or lead nurse, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and direction of staff, orientation and annual assessment of competencies and the assurance to clinic specific and hospital policies and procedures. The MA administers medications and immunizations, obtains vital signs, maintains an inventory of appropriate supplies, ensures safe and efficient patient flow, tracks high-risk referrals and lab tests, facilitates safe transitions of care, organizes the practice environment to assure patient safety and quality health outcomes, and contributes to HEDIS and designated quality measures. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice.

HS Diploma or GED req. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Work Experience

• No experience required. 1-2 years’ experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

It is the organization’s expectation that all incumbents be certified or registered within 3 months of employment, if not at hiring.

Current MA certification must be maintained. Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years.

• If bilingual, must successfully pass the required JHM approved designated language assessment prior to receiving employment. Successful candidates must complete all required training within 30 days of hire.

Salary Range: Minimum $19.25/hour - Maximum $31.80/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
