Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant in Ohio to provide clinical and administrative support under a Provider or licensed Nurse. The role includes phlebotomy, vital signs, patient rooming, and EPIC documentation.

You will perform routine office tasks, support discharge planning, and help maintain a safe, patient-centered environment. On-site, with typical M-F hours, 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program or EMT/Paramedic program is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Experience in healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination; take and record vital signs; perform phlebotomy as needed; administer medications as directed.
  • Collect data contributing to assessment and discharge planning under Licensed Nurse direction.
  • Collect, process, and submit laboratory specimens per policy and procedure.
  • Communicate patient findings to Providers and/or Licensed Nurse using proper documentation.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system.
  • Schedule appointments, prepare visits, collect co-pays, and track patients as needed.
  • Perform department-specific duties such as POCT and vision/hearing screenings.
  • Perform routine office tasks (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
  • Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Follow safety policies to ensure a safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Other duties assigned.

Job description

Summary:

The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
  2. Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
  3. Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
  4. Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
  5. Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system
  6. Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
  7. Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
  8. Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
  9. Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
  10. Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
  11. Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members
  12. Other duties assigned

40 HRS / Weekly

DaysMonday-Friday 8am-4:30pm/7:30am-4pm

Technical Expertise
  1. Experience in phlebotomy is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology is required.
  3. Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred.
  4. Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
  5. Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
Education and Experience
  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Completion of an approved (valid) Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required.
  3. Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
  4. Certification: Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  5. Years of relevant experience: no experience required.
  6. Years of experience supervising: None.
