Job description

GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant I.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Position purpose

This role involves both clinical and administrative tasks, such as assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational responsibilities. The Medical Assistant provides information to patients to optimize their use of clinical services.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

• Perform patient care responsibilities, including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting with walking transfers, dressing, specimen collection, preparing for exams, taking patient history, checking vital signs, performing screenings, charting, phone triage, medication administration, relaying instructions, answering calls, and verifying prescriptions.
• Handle clerical duties such as managing medical records, obtaining lab and hospital reports, completing forms, scheduling appointments, patient check-in/out, verifying insurance, and maintaining accurate charts.
• Fulfill organizational responsibilities like respecting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and communicating issues to supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma, GED, medical assistant diploma, or relevant coursework.

Experience: At least one year in a medical facility or completed externship; experience in Gastroenterology preferred.

Requirements for Level I Status

• Entry-level (1-4 years) with supervision needed.
• Over 4 years of experience meeting basic requirements with supervision needed.

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge of healthcare and EMR systems.
• Skills in medical tasks, communication, patient education, and multitasking.
• Ability to project professionalism and compassion.
