Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the on-site provider, assists in delivering patient care by performing delegated medical tasks, supporting providers and nursing staff, and handling clerical duties. Utilizes the electronic medical record (EMR) for documentation. Access to medication storage areas and transportation of medications are required. Participates in daily operations and patient flow, serving as a resource for Medical Assistant I and II, and exemplifies teamwork, leadership, communication, accountability, customer service, and clinical mastery.

Primary Responsibilities

The following outlines the general scope of work for this role. It is not exhaustive.

  1. Greet patients courteously and professionally.
  2. Follow communication protocols; respond to questions/concerns; pursue service recovery as needed.
  3. Clinical Duties
  4. Gather and document patient history and chief complaints accurately in the EMR; act as a resource for Medical Assistant I & II.
  5. Follow workflows to ensure efficiency and timely patient service.
  6. Prepare patients for exams, perform and document vital signs and risk screenings, and report abnormal values.
  7. Conduct routine clinical tests such as specimen collection, vision and hearing screening, EKG, and point-of-care testing, following protocols.
  8. Provide patient education materials as directed.
  9. Perform high-level disinfection of equipment and environment; ensure equipment compliance and submit service tickets as needed.
  10. Order and restock clinical supplies, maintaining readiness of exam rooms.
  11. Deliver care suited to patient populations, considering social determinants of health.
  12. Administer select medications and injections under supervision; assist with immunizations and track data.
  13. Participate in patient outreach, follow-up, and care coordination activities.
  14. Engage in population health initiatives to improve outcomes.
  15. Complete medication and equipment prior authorizations independently.
  16. Function effectively in all MA roles, work independently, serve as a preceptor, and support team training.

Administrative Duties

  1. Obtain prior authorizations, benefit checks, and provide basic financial counseling.
  2. Enhance patient experience by communicating delays and addressing barriers.
  3. Review and respond to business communications timely.
  4. Assist with template building, scheduling adherence, and compliance with regulations.

Additional Duties

  1. Participate in skill and competency development.
  2. Assist in peer reviews, serve as a preceptor, and contribute to process improvements.
  3. Engage in team meetings and shared governance.
  4. Support practice operations and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience - Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Optional: 1 year of supervised medical assisting experience within the last 3 years, vetted by HR and Department Directors.
  • Current certification through AAMA, NHA, AAH, or AMT (e.g., Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant).
  • At least 3 years of medical assisting and practice experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification.

  • Adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and safety precautions.
  • Effective communication skills with patients and team members.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and promote teamwork.
