Job summary

Hoag Health System in Orange County seeks a Medical Assistant to support Hoag Medical Group across multiple sites including Tustin, Irvine, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. You will assist with non-clinical tasks, patient flow, and communication between providers and patients.

Responsibilities include scheduling, chart preparation, vital signs, rooming patients, and assisting with procedures. Prior MA training or one year back-office experience is preferred; EPIC/EMR familiarity and BLS are desired.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program OR one year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
• Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Preferred an Associate or Bachelor's degree in healthcare-related field.
• Working knowledge of EPIC or other EMR systems.
• Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged.

Job Description

This position is for multiple Orange County sites across Hoag Medical Group. Locations include: Tustin, Irvine, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Aliso Viejo, San Clemente, Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, Foothill Ranch, and Costa Mesa. Specialties include: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Etc. All positions will be Monday-Friday day shift hours.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for maintaining a highly professional environment, ensuring a collaborative relationship with patients and physicians. The MA will assist with the non-clinical tasks required to ensure smooth patient access and flow. The non-clinical responsibilities include pre-authorization processes and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The MA will work collaboratively with staff to ensure all proper records are received and all appropriate testing is completed prior to appointment or surgery date. The MA will provide updates to staff and patients on timing and status for all above tasks that could impact the patient’s health and/or testing and treatment options. Ensures even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.

This includes but is not limited to the following tasks:

• Scheduling patients (including follow-up office visits, imaging, and lab work)
• Preparation of appropriate chart elements
• Checking vital signs
• Rooming patients
• Assisting with procedures

May be required to start at a different location throughout the workweek or travel to multiple sites.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required

• High school graduate or equivalent GED,
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program OR one year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
• Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology

Preferred

• Associate or Bachelors’ degree in healthcare-related field
• Minimum one (1) year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment
• Working Knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system ‘EMR’
• Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates

Certifications Required

• Current BLS Certification
