Job summary

UPMC's Penn Plum Family Medicine in Penn Hills is seeking a Medical Assistant to support both back and front office duties. The role requires travel between Saltsburg Rd and St. Margaret's locations and may include some Saturday shifts on a schedule a year in advance.

The position involves patient care, chart preparation, phlebotomy, EKGs, level one labs, and adherence to HIPAA and safety regulations. Experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Experience with back and front office duties is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in accordance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information; schedule appointments; verify insurance and demographics; manage charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments; maintain infection control; manage inventory and restock supplies.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; escort patients to rooms; assist with walking, transfers, and specimen collection.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in the medical record.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept of Health; maintain confidentiality; follow UPMC policies.
• Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
