Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Tri-Rivers Multi Speciality office in Mars, PA. This role focuses on back-office duties within a growing Rheumatology and Osteoporosis division, with opportunities for growth and development.

Hours are Monday–Friday during daytime hours; no evenings or weekends. Travel to Cramberry and Slippery Rock offices may be required. Prior Medical Assistant experience is preferred. Parking is free at all locations.

Qualifications

• Experience as Medical Assistant preferred.
• Willingness to travel between Mars, PA and other offices as needed.
• Ability to complete forms and manage charts.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referrals; schedule appointments; verify insurance and patient demographics.
• Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is complete and filed correctly; assist with front-office tasks as needed.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments; maintain infection control; monitor equipment and supplies.
• Assist patients with walking, transfers, preparing for exams, taking vitals, and providing instructions as directed.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in the chart.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept of Health; maintain confidentiality; follow UP C Health System policies.
• Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.

UPMC is looking for a Medical Assistant to join the Tri-Rivers Multi Speciality office in Mars, PA! This is a multi-specialty office with a growing Rheumatology and Osteoporosis division.

Hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required! This position will be responsible for back office duties and will require travel to the Cramberry and Slippery Rock offices on occasion for staffing needs. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred! Free parking available at all locations.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.

Responsibilities:

• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
