Job summary

Austin Regional Clinic is seeking a Staff Medical Assistant to support patient care across our Austin locations. You will handle patient rooms, vitals, medication refills, and basic diagnostic testing, while following ARC protocols and HIPAA requirements.

The position requires a High school diploma or MA program completion, with CPR/BLS within 60 days and potential MA certification. Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm; full-time, onsite.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT (or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care.
  • Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred; BLS CPR required within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately reports and documents status, care rendered, response to care, provider orders, and contacts with patient and/or other healthcare providers.
  • Refills medications following ARC refill protocols.
  • Accurately rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, and prepares patients for provider exam.
  • Performs diagnostic testing including EKGs, audiograms, tympanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings with reporting and documentation.
  • Monitors inventory of medical/office supplies and orders supplies as needed.
  • Reviews provider refill in basket and assists with daily medication refill requests.
  • Reviews EPIC triage call in basket for callbacks.
  • Maintains and cleans patient rooms and handles laundry properly.
  • Assists with sigmoidoscopy exams and cardiac stress testing setup and post-exam cleanup.
  • Maintains equipment and adheres to policies including HIPAA and OSHA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows clinic protocols and directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor.
  • Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to EKGs, audiograms, tympanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings with reporting and documentation as appropriate.
  • Monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies and equipment, ensuring units and/or rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and not expired. Orders supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing both Provider refill in basket and assisting with daily medication refill request using the ARC refill protocol.
  • Responsible for reviewing EPIC triage call in basket for any callbacks.
  • Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
  • Ensures laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens on a daily basis.
  • May assist providers with sigmoidoscopy exams and cardiac stress testing by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Reports and documents appropriately.
  • Maintains equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.)
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on CMSweb.
  • Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
  • Staff Medical Assistant:
    • Provides patients with educational materials as directed.
    • Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing.
    • Responsible for reviewing result note in basket and calling /informing patients of normal lab results.
    • Reviews provider instructions regarding abnormal results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Staff Medical Assistant:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to meet one of the following:
    • Medical Assistant experience, or
    • CNA/EMT/PCT(or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care, beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or
    • Graduate of a medical assistant program.

Preferred:

  • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.

  • Ability to administer medications & injections within scope of position within 90 days of hire.

Certificate/License

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am-5:00pm
