Job summary

Greater New Bedford Community Health Center is seeking an Entry-level Medical Assistant Float to provide essential clinical support across Pediatrics, Adult Medicine, Women's Health, and Urgent Care in New Bedford, MA. You will greet patients, take vitals, perform triage and EKGs, and support immunizations and referrals.

The role requires a high school diploma and formal medical assisting training with a certificate.

Qualifications

• Completion of formal program in medical assisting with certificate
• 2+ years of experience in medical assisting
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) software
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Bilingual or trilingual abilities preferred
• CCMA or CMA national certification preferred; CPR/AED certification required

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and direct them to exam rooms, perform intake, take vital signs, brief history, and document in EHR
• Perform EKG, point-of-care testing, visual acuity, and oximetry per department, document findings in EHR
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and maintain aseptic technique
• Keep exam and treatment rooms safe, sanitary, and well supplied
• Assist with clinical phone calls and triage with nursing staff as needed
• Schedule patient appointments and referrals, manage scheduling in the system
• Obtain referrals and maintain patient confidentiality
• Handle mail and office communications, ensure efficient office operations
• Manage inventory of supplies and serve as patient advocate
• Protect patient privacy and respond to workflow changes; orient new staff
• Operate office equipment and assist with immunizations as directed
• Coordinate med reconciliation with patients and pharmacies as needed
• Place orders for point-of-care testing and supplies
