Job summary

Baptist Health in Kentucky seeks a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient clinic. You will take vitals, document histories, and help streamline patient flow while managing EPIC and coordinating tests and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency.
  • 1+ year experience as Medical Assistant with direct patient care.
  • Graduate of accredited MA program with hands-on patient care.
  • Clinical competency assessment and MA orientation required.
  • Basic computer skills; EMR experience a plus.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications within 90 days for Occupational Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs and document patient history.
  • Reconcile medications and document current medications.
  • Facilitate patient flow and schedule appointments.
  • Manage EPIC electronic health record and test coordination.
  • Process medication requests and prior authorizations.
  • Coordinate tests and procedures for patients.

Summary
Job Description

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow.

Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
  • 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG's, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
  • Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
  • Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
  • Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant:

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
  • Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
