Job Summary

This position performs routine clerical, administrative, and clinical duties within the scope allowed for TN state law. It may be assigned to a specific clinic/provider or float across various clinics based on business needs. The role requires collaboration with physicians, providers, team members, patients, and the public. The MA must be customer-focused, growth-oriented, and committed to HMA’s mission, vision, values, and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

Clinical

• Gather and document clinical data during direct care or phone encounters, ensuring accurate medical records.
• Notify physicians or nurses of patient status, abnormal data, or complaints; administer CPR if needed.
• Triages patients appropriately and informs providers of issues.
• Prepare and administer medications, immunizations, and tests as ordered, understanding dosages and reactions.
• Conduct CLIA-waived tests and handle specimens following protocols.
• Operate and troubleshoot clinical equipment.
• Assist with patient encounters, including education, procedures, and room preparation.
• Handle prescriptions and maintain medication supplies securely.

Administrative

• Ensure timely processing of sterile instruments.
• Schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage referrals and authorizations.
• Follow up on diagnostic results and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Clerical

• Answer calls, order supplies, and complete required forms accurately.
• Participate in meetings and training to stay current.

Customer Service

• Display sensitivity, courtesy, and respect in all interactions.
• Ensure patient questions are answered and needs addressed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Clear communication skills.
• Basic computer knowledge; experience with EHR systems preferred.
• Prior experience in a large multi-specialty practice is a plus.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
• Current CPR certification.
• For float positions, valid TN driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to stand for 8-10 hours, lift at least 25 lbs, and assist with patient transfers.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and clinical hazards.
