Job Summary

This position performs routine clerical, administrative, and clinical duties within the scope allowed for TN state law. The MA may be assigned to a specific clinic/provider or float to various clinics/providers based on needs. Must work collaboratively with physicians, providers, team members, patients, and the public. The MA may perform other duties as assigned, must be customer-focused, and committed to high standards of ethics, compliance, and the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Gather and document clinical data via direct care and phone encounters, including chief complaint, vital signs, allergies, medications, health history, etc.
  • Notify physician/provider of patient status, lab results, and abnormalities; administer CPR if needed.
  • Triages patients appropriately and informs providers of issues.
  • Prepare and administer medications, immunizations, and tests as ordered, following protocols.
  • Conduct CLIA waived testing and handle specimens per guidelines.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clinical equipment.
  • Assist with patient encounters, including education, procedures, and room preparation.
  • Manage prescriptions, samples, and medication supplies accurately.

Administrative Duties:

  • Ensure sterile instrument processing.
  • Schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage referrals and authorizations.
  • Follow up on diagnostic results and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Clerical and Customer Service:

  • Answer calls professionally, order supplies, and complete required forms.
  • Participate in meetings and training.
  • Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating sensitivity, courtesy, and respect.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Computer literacy helpful; experience with EHR systems preferred.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program or relevant experience.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • If float, valid TN driver’s license and insurance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Stand for 8-10 hours, lift at least 25 lbs, assist with patient transfers, and perform clinical tasks.
