Job summary

The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), now part of HCA Healthcare, seeks a Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator to connect Medical Assistant students with externship sites and monitor progress. You will build relationships with sites, ensure compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with Career Services to transition externs into employment.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in medical assisting, CMA credential, CPR preferred, and a passion for student success and hands-on

Responsibilities

In this vital role, you’ll connect aspiring Medical Assistants with high-quality externship opportunities that prepare them for real-world healthcare environments. You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with externship sites, monitoring student progress, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

This role is ideal for a motivated, organized, and student-focused professional with real-world healthcare experience who’s ready to make a difference in medical education—no teaching experience required.

Key Responsibilities

• Secure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students.
• Ensure a minimum of 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor student performance and maintain relationships with extern partners.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including TWC regulations.
• Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to transition externs into full-time employment.
• Counsel students on attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations during externship.
• Conduct externship orientations and support students with resume writing and interview preparation.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
• Track student progress and ensure final evaluations and exit interviews are completed.
• Promote the program throughout the medical community via outreach and networking

Qualifications

• At least 3+ years of practical experience in the medical assisting field.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
• CPR certification preferred.
• No teaching experience required—just a passion for helping students succeed.
