Job summary

UNLV Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians in exam and treatment procedures, while ensuring patient confidentiality and high-quality care. You will assist with EKGs, basic medications, and patient education, using EPIC and MS Office in a busy ambulatory setting in Las Vegas, NV.

Required is a HS diploma or MA program graduation, with 1 year of MA experience preferred and certification or eligibility to obtain within 90 days.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from Medical Assistant program required.
  • 1 year MA experience in ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Current nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or registration required or obtained within 90 days.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Able to use patient management software; EPIC preferred.
  • Adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians/providers in examination and treatment.
  • Deliver high quality care while maintaining patient privacy.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage appointments.
  • Support in EKGs and basic pharmacology terminology as needed.

Job description

Working Under the direction of physician/ provider. The MA is responsible to assist in the examination and treatment of patients delivering high quality care and services, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Clinic Hours are Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM (Actual scheduled hours may vary depending on business need).

Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program Required.
Qualifications
  • One year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting preferred.
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical assistant Certification or Registration required or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Good communication and customer service skills required.
  • Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to adhere to confidentiality policies.
  • Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of patient management software and basic Microsoft office products. EPIC Preferred.
  • Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
  • Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed.
  • Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Strong attention to detail skills.
Physical Requirements
  • May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods.
  • May include performing repetitive tasks.
  • May include working with challenging patients and clients.
  • May include lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use logic reasoning for simple and complex problem solving.
  • Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
