Job summary

Hometown Urgent Care in Columbus, OH seeks a Medical Assistant to support clinicians with patient history, vitals, screenings, phlebotomy and injections, while maintaining accurate documentation and HIPAA compliance.

You will perform point-of-care tests, coordinate records, assist with exams, manage registrations and scheduling, and help train team members in a fast-paced urgent care environment.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years experience in a physician practice or clinic preferred.
• Basic computer skills including Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Ability to function independently with strong clinical judgment.
• CPR certification completion and maintenance required.

Responsibilities

• Take patient history and obtain vital signs.
• Perform basic testing/screenings (vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, PFT).
• Perform phlebotomy for lab samples.
• Complete lab test paperwork and computer entries.
• Administer subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and document procedures.
• Conduct point-of-care testing (strep, flu, glucose, pregnancy, urinalysis).
• Dispense and document medications and other treatments.
• Maintain sterile technique and autoclave operations.
• Coordinate records for ancillary care and referrals.
• Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic, eye/ear irrigations, I&Ds, splints).
• Perform occupational medicine tests (urine drug screens, breath alcohol, audiogram, DOT).
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
• Report equipment malfunctions; ensure equipment works.
• Log lab procedures and process related paperwork.
• Handle patient call backs, referrals, and education.
• Maintain exam rooms and stock supplies; support patient flow.
• Explain insurance coverage and collect payments during registration.
• Travel to care centers within designated region.
• Train team members and support a collaborative environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
