Job summary

Scripps Health is seeking a Clinical Support professional to join our dermatology team at the Anderson Medical Pavilion in La Jolla, CA. This full-time role involves inpatient and outpatient support, front and back office duties, patient intakes, scribing, and assisting with procedures, with occasional float to other sites.

• Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program or a minimum of two years of experience as a Military Corpsman or Medical Assistant Certification
• BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

• Assisting with inpatient dermatology visits
• Front and back office duties
• Perform patient intakes
• Scribing for the dermatologist
• Assisting with diagnostic testing, phototherapy and surgical procedures
• Completing clerical duties including scheduling patient visits
• Floating to other sites within the specialty as needed
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment
• Assisting in preparing patients for examination/procedures
• Assisting physicians with procedures
• Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient
• Collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting in the EMR
• Administering medications directed by the physician
• Performing vital sign documentation
• Scheduling of appointments and procedures
• Taking messages and routing appropriately
• Order and referral entry
• Acquisition of pre-certifications
• Setting up cases in EPIC
• Registration and updating demographics

Description

This is a benefited, full-time position generally working Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm. Shift hours may vary based on need. No weekends or evenings required. Located at the Anderson Medical Pavilion on the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla campus, but may float to other sites as needed. The ideal candidate must be flexible with work hours and have reliable transportation.

What you'll do:

• Assisting with inpatient dermatology visits
• Front and back office duties
• Perform patient intakes
• Scribing for the dermatologist
• Assisting with diagnostic testing, phototherapy and surgical procedures
• Completing clerical duties including scheduling patient visits, taking supply inventory and managing medication authorization approvals
• Float to other sites within the specialty depending upon department needs
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, and organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician's practice.
• Assisting in preparing patients for examination/procedures
• Assisting physicians with procedures
• Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
• Collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
• Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
• Performing vital sign documentation
• Scheduling of appointments and procedures
• Complete and accurate message taking
• Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
• Order and referral entry
• Acquisition of pre-certifications
• Setting up of cases in EPIC
• Basic registration and updating of demographics

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program or a minimum of two years of experience as a Military Corpsman or Medical Assistant Certification
• BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year of previous MA experience in the given department
• Experience assisting with procedures
