Full Time: $2,500 SIGN-ON BONUS Recently Increased Wages and Sign On Bonus available!

The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities, such as lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration. These are performed under the direction of the Nurse and/or the physician in preparation for the patient's examination and treatment. The incumbent carries out clerical activities, quality control activities, performance improvement initiatives, etc. in support of the physician practice as assigned. This position also serves as a resource for the clerical/clinical staff in the practice.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician practices policies, procedures, and protocols.
  2. Assist to collect patient healthcare data, including VS, weight, chief complaint and pain assessment as directed.
  3. Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
  4. Comply with completeness, accuracy and timeliness of documentation.
  5. Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  6. Communicate pertinent information of actual or potential problems to the physician or nurse.
  7. Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office functions.
  8. Answer telephone calls, taking accurate messages and relaying them to the appropriate staff.
  9. Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic and insurance information entering it into the billing system.
  10. Accurately enter codes, based on diagnosis given, and enters codes and charges into billing system.
  11. Complete forms and letters necessary for continued patient care.
  12. Provide for patient safety in compliance with hospital and physician practice policies.
  13. Label all patient specimens with identifiers per policy.
  14. Adhere to infection control process, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections.
  15. Assist in continuous survey readiness or inspections and surveys.
  16. Perform all quality control, monitoring functions and reports out of range information immediately to supervisor.
  17. Consistently practice National Patient Safety Goals.
  18. Knowledge of and/or ability to schedule surgery, procedures, and testing for patients.
  19. Exit counseling which includes education, scheduling of testing and providing patients with necessary information.
  20. Prepare charts for clinic sessions and obtain vital signs and weight.
  21. Perform control studies and completes log books according to policy.
  22. Perform phlebotomy procedures, reads the test results, and documents accordingly.
  23. Prepare the exam rooms and stocks supplies daily.
  24. Provide pre and post-examination education and counseling.
  25. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma, GED or next level of higher education.
  2. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  3. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Outlook and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Previous outpatient office experience.
License, Certification & Clearances
  1. Medical Assistant Certification, preferred.
  2. Act 33 with renewal
  3. Act 34 with renewal
  4. Act 73 FBI Clearance
  5. Friends & Family CPR
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  1. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  2. Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
