Job Summary

The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Physician, Clinical Lead, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office Manager. Recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance. Provides care for the patient under the physician's direction, including preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. Assists with explaining patient instructions to the patient/family. Demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Performs other duties as necessary related to front office registration, laboratory testing, and radiology functions within a specialty setting.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

1. Clinical and Non-Clinical Duties: Register patient upon entrance, perform registration, prepare equipment and rooms, aid physician, perform vitals, rotate among service areas, ensure patient safety, and cross-train team members.
2. Diagnostic Imaging: Perform radiographic and diagnostic imaging procedures, prepare and position patients, obtain views, process images, review for quality, and document.
3. Laboratory Duties: Start and maintain lab equipment, perform tests, draw blood, order supplies, perform quality control, and cross-train.
4. Patient Liaison: Provide patient-centered care respecting cultural diversity, partner with patients and families, and practice current clinical standards.
5. Teamwork and Collaboration: Coordinate safe, quality care, promote respectful environment, and practice fiscal responsibility.
6. Professional Development: Complete competency assessments, mandatory education, serve as preceptor, and model professionalism.
7. Evidence-Based Practice and Research: Promote safe, quality care, participate in data collection, and adhere to policies and standards.
8. Resources and Support: Plan for patient care across continuum, develop protocols, and support resource efficiency.

Minimum Education and Certification

High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred. Certifications required upon hire: BLS, Certified Medical Assistant. Additional certifications such as radiology or phlebotomy are preferred.

Experience

Experience in a practice setting preferred, including specific practice specialty, radiology, or phlebotomy experience.
