Position Summary: Responsible for care of patients and related medical and clerical support functions. These support functions will vary but will include accompanying patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, performing and documenting vital signs, assisting with procedures, preparing and administering medications with physician’s authorization, performing EKGs, using CPR skills when required, drawing blood, and providing patient education with regards to office policies, medication, and management of disease, home treatments, and special diets. Responsible for stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms, cleaning instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards, and performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times, and adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• At least 1 year of related customer facing experience, preferably in healthcare.
License/Certification:
• Certification from nationally recognized agency, required. Accepted agencies and certifications include:
• American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Computer knowledge, required.
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, patients’ families/visitors and clinical staff, including all levels of providers.
• Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
• Phlebotomy skills and experience, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert up to 15 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
